An end-use energy consumption on Bangladeshi textile industry

Abstract

In industrial sector the overall demand of electricity is increasing by about 5% per year in industrial sector. An energy consumption audit was conducted in Kojima Lyric Garments, Gazipur to determine the total electrical energy consumption. Different energy saving measures were discussed and suitable ones for garments industry were applied. It was found that, about 1,294,589 kWh electric energy was consumed annually in a year. Among this, the motor or motor driven system consumes 9,13,350 kWh. If we installed energy efficient motors we could save 47,761.6 kWh for full load, which is 5.23% of total energy used my motors. If we used variable speed drive the saving would be up to 37% of total energy consumed by motors. The payback period for these cases was found to be economically viable. The emission reduction due to these energy saving measures are also calculated.
