dc.description.abstract This project is based on designing an economical pH meter, which is capable of controlling food quality. It would accomplish that through the comparison of the pH values obtained from the food items with the safe pH values which are allowable. If the measured pH values are within that safe range, the foods are fit to be eaten. If not, then the foods are inedible and detrimental to human health if eaten with disregard to their quality. The aim of the project is also to integrate a wireless data transmission mechanism which will allow the data received at the input end to be sent to the output end, which could be some distance away. This would be highly useful in super-shops and food shops where the cash counter is far from the food display. Moreover, the intention is to make the provision to detect formalin in food items. Presence of formalin would mean that the pH values of the foods are not within the safe levels allowable. The mechanism should work like an alarm, that is, if the meter detects the presence of formalin, an alarm should be set off, which would caution the customer about the hazardous chemical. en_US
