dc.description.abstract The design of a low-cost triangulation 3D laser scanner using off-the-shelf electronics is described. This system has a wide range of applications in 3D modeling, and is particularly useful because of its portability and inexpensiveness. The hardware setup was implemented and the 3D reconstruction was performed for a sample object. The result is compared to the actual object, and possible sources of error are identified and investigated. A discussion of the results attempts to show that advanced image processing algorithms can be used to minimize inaccuracies and create a workable prototype. en_US
