Identifying motivational factors of international students studying at Islamic University of Technology

Abstract

A long-overdue study examined the motives for the international student’s motivational factors to choose to study at the Islamic University of Technology (IUT) as their study destination and examined the relationship between these factors and their mental wellbeing among international students at IUT. In this study, we investigated into the thoughts of the international students to try and understand the underlying factors that led them to decide to pursue their studies at IUT. The intended audience was international students of Islamic University of Technology Bangladesh. Participants in the study included both male and female international students with varying degrees of schooling and majors and also from different countries. Six motivational factors were evaluated at the level of importance. The total of 255 response were obtained from students and a found there were usable for data analysis. The data was analyzed using SPSS software, and the reliability and inconsistency of the items was 0.810, indicating satisfactory analysis. The study also discovered a significant association between academic satisfaction and motivating variables, indicating that strong University reputations and high-quality instruction are two ways in which institutions might improve student contentment. Although the study did not discover a clear connection between mental wellbeing and academic satisfaction, it did emphasize how important it is for Universities to offer support services that address the mental health needs of international students.
