Abstract:
The abundance and availability of rice husk, an agricultural waste, make them as a
good source for precursor of activated carbon and silicon carbide. The present work
entitle “Production of Activated Carbon and Extraction of Silicon Carbide from Rice
Husk” was taken up to study the optimum operating conditions at laboratory scale.
Rice husk-based activated carbons were prepared via base treated chemical activation
process with H3PO4 as activating agent. The activated carbon was evaluated with
methylene blue dye adsorption test by using visible ultra violet (Vis. UV)
Spectrophotometer. Extraction of Silicon Carbide was carried out using various
parameters such as pre-treatment or acid leaching, treatment with ammonia solution,
pyrolysis of rice husk. The samples were characterized by XRD analysis.
