dc.description.abstract Engine performance very much depends on the proper alignment & working condition of different components (such as piston, piston rings, connecting rod, different valves, crank shaft, cam shaft etc), Lubrication system, and fuel injection system. If the components are not properly aligned or working condition is not good then engine produce excessive noise other than its ideal condition. This paper shows a systematic way to determine engine condition by analyzing sound wave produced by engine. Hence engine is tested for three working condition. That is when it is working at ideal speed, without one spark plug and without an air filter. Engine sound is recorded by a sound recorder for different conditions and then analyzed on MATLAB. It has been observed that for a particular problem engine produce vibration of certain frequency. If the frequency range of particular problem is known then it will be easier to predict the problem of the engine. en_US
